Sela Theme Blog vs Home

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve recently switched my existing blog to the Sela Theme to try to make it look like the Sela demo.

I already have a pre-existing blog (currently called Home), so I’m confused about how to change the existing blog title (home) to Blog? Do I need to create a new page called Blog? Or do I need a menu to change it to blog?

    I’d appreciate some help. https://thejennreport.wordpress.com/

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I give up, as this theme is not working as it should be. In page options >template is Italian wording. I’ll just find another theme. Thank you.

    Hi Jennifer,

I already have a pre-existing blog (currently called Home), so I’m confused about how to change the existing blog title (home) to Blog? Do I need to create a new page called Blog? Or do I need a menu to change it to blog?

To replicate the Sela theme’s demo site, you’ll need two pages: One entitled Home and another entitled Blog.

Blog should be an empty page while Home should contain any text you wish to appear on your site’s front page. Assign the Front Page template to your Home page, also.

Once you have those two pages, navigate to the Static Front Page panel in the Customizer. From here, select Home to be your site’s static front page and Blog to be the posts page.

I give up, as this theme is not working as it should be. In page options >template is Italian wording. I’ll just find another theme. Thank you.

I’m sorry for how confusing that must have been!

There’s a glitch on our end that causes the Italian translations to sometimes display in the Page Options dropdown menu. I’ve added a note to the main report with information about your experience.

Are you still experiencing this issue? If so, would you be able to create a screenshot and upload it to your Media Library?

Let me know if you have any further questions on getting set up with Sela, too.

    Hi @siobhyb,

Thank you for your time & help, I appreciate it. I cleared the browser cache and that seemed to get rid of Italian translation in page options>template.

My final question is how do I get rid of the scrollbar on the homepage, so it looks like the Sela demo? Thanks.

@siobhyb, I fixed the scrollbar issue. Thank you for your help today.

    Hi Jennifer,

I’m glad that clearing the browser’s cache solved the Italian problem. :) The team will continue to work at a fix for the core issue, too.

I believe that the scrollbar is displaying on the home page due to the small size of the featured image. The theme’s author recommends a width of at least 1180px for the featured image on the home page. In addition, the height should ideally be at least 50px larger than the height of the overlaying white box.

If you have extra questions, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

I’m still experiencing issues with the Sela Theme:
-Italian language in page options (see screenshot)
-trouble with uploading featured photo (have cleared cache etc… )

Please recommend an alternative theme to Sela, I’d very much appreciate it.

Hi @whatabusiness, I would be happy to help with the featured image uploading on Sela. Can you give me a bit more explanation on what is happening when you try and upload a featured image?

As far as theme recommendations, if you are looking for a theme with a slider at the top, you may want to look at Shoreditch or Toujours.

You can also look here for a filtered list of free themes with Post Sliders and Featured Images.

    Hi thesacredpath,
I figured out the problem with uploading featured images. It’s a labeling issue. For instance, 1180×360.jpeg doesn’t work – the image won’t load. Whereas 1180360.jpeg seems to work better. Sometimes I clear the cache or use Ctr+F5 which also helps.

The Italian language is still happening in Page options>page template drop down. I can live with that issue, as I’m using a dictionary to translate it.

I’ll look into your Theme suggestions.

Thank you for your time and help, I appreciate it

I’m glad you were able to resolve the labelling issue with your featured images. :)

The team are still looking into the Italian language issue and I’m very sorry for the confusion it’s causing. I’ll let you know when I hear back from them on it.

I’m continuing to experience buggy issues with the Sela Theme. I’ve been trying to make it work but am feeling discouraged.

The Italian language is still visible under Page Options>Page Template. Also, I’m missing a few widgets (first front page, second front page, third front page)> customize widgets. Widgets are enabled and saved. Sometimes my homepage (welcome) is completely blank (text and title disappear).

I would appreciate your help. Thank you!

    Hi Jennifer,

The Italian language is still visible under Page Options>Page Template.

I’m very sorry for the continued problems with the Italian translations. I can understand that it’s discouraging! The team is aware of the problem but it’s proving tricky to track down the specific cause. The issue seems to come up intermittently.

People have had success in getting rid of the translations by clearing their browser’s cache. Would you be able to try that?

Also, I’m missing a few widgets (first front page, second front page, third front page)> customize widgets.

At the moment your front page has the “Grid Page” template. The Front Page Widget Areas will only display on pages with the “Front Page” template assigned to it.

Sometimes my homepage (welcome) is completely blank (text and title disappear).

Is it only the text that’s invisible when this happens? If possible, can you create a screenshot next time it happens?

In addition, have you so far only been able to replicate this on Firefox? It would be helpful to know if you’ve been able to replicate on any other browsers.

    Thanks!

I am experiencing trouble changing the theme of my site from Sela to Radcliff. I have read through how to accomplish this, but it doesn’t seem to want to take the new default of Radcliff. Can you give me some help.

  • Unknown's avatar

@simonsg1: I took a look at quietplacessite.wordpress.com and can confirm that Radcliffe, not Sela, is the active theme on that site.

All of Sela’s dummy content, from when you first activated that theme, was still in place though. I’ve now cleared that dummy content and replaced it with the content from Radcliffe’s demo site for you. Hope that helps out!

If you switch themes in future: Any existing content on your site will remain and won’t be automatically replaced. If you’d like for us to get you set up with dummy content from a theme’s demo site then please contact us directly.

@siobhyb, thank you for your time and help. I’m finally making some progress with the Sela Theme. :)

Hi guys, I have a (really rookie) problem.
With the Sela theme, I set up a static home page using the Front Page format, then added widgets below. I’m trying to get the same sort of look as the demo page, but there is the ‘Home’ title and needless white space between the nav bar and the widgets (printscreen) – is there any way to rid me of the Home text and whitespace gap, so it can be like the demo page?
Thanks in advance for your help! Em

Never mind, I realised the rookie mistake about five seconds after posting, typical.

  • If anyone has further questions about Sela, please start your own thread in the Themes forum, as I’m closing this one. Thanks!
