sela theme: displaing testimonials on home page

  Hi,
  My home page always displays the same 2 testimonials. I thought I read in the Sela documentation that they were randomly chosen to be displayed. Is there a setting I have to choose in order to have different testimonials display on my home page. I would like it to be random. I have the order of all my testimonials set to 0.

  From the Testimonials section of the Sela theme guide, bold added for emphasis on the most relevant phrase:

  Sela features testimonials in two ways:

  • The dedicated testimonial archive page displays all testimonials in reverse chronological order, with the newest displayed first.
  • The Front Page Template displays the most recent two testimonials. If you prefer to select which two testimonials are displayed on the homepage, add the number 1 or 2 to the Order field in the Page Attributes box on the testimonial edit screen.

  I would be okay with it displaying my two most recent testimonials, but it keeps displaying the first two testimonials I received. Is this a bug?

  Possibly. On my test site, I also found that the first two testimonials displayed, although they display in chronological order, the oldest one on the left. I don’t recall noticing that before. You might want to bring it to the attention of staff. To call for staff attention, add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar here.

  Hi Joy,

  @musicdoc1 is correct in that the theme will display the most recent two testimonials on the homepage (not randomly). I believe you’re seeing the same two testimonials (rather than the most recent two) because you’ve specifically set the page order. Can you remove the “0” from the order box to see if that fixes up the issue?

  @ jeremeylduvall,

  On my test site I tried removing the zeros from my order boxes, but each time the zero returned after updating. I had never entered the zeros to begin with. “0” is the default value. My front page is still displaying the oldest two testimonials, of three with different published dates, in chronological order (left to right).

  Wow – really sorry for missing that! You’re absolutely correct. Not sure why it’s picking the oldest two instead of the most recent two. I’ll check with our theme developers and reply back here when I have more information!

  Hi all!

  Sorry for the delay here. I wanted to close the loop. We’ve added the following paragraph to the theme documentation:

  The Front Page Template displays the oldest two testimonials. If you prefer to select which two testimonials are displayed on the homepage, add the numbers 0 or 1 to the Order field in the Page Attributes box on the testimonial edit screen, and ensure all other Testimonials have an Order number of greater than 1.
