Sela theme embedding links: Driving me nuts

• Unknown's avatar

Just started building website using newish Sela theme. Used wordpress.com for years. Trying to Embed links in appropriate words and NO MATTER WHAT I DO/try will not.

It embeds page links–from the site itself (i.e., when I refer to Gail and embed link to “about gail” page i created on site)–but not sites outside wordpress.com.

Tried clearing the formatting, copy/pasting from Word doc, retyping–everything, to NO AVAIL.

Anyone else encounter this? I have many links to embed and may just have to ditch the Sela theme altogether.

please help, anyone. thank you!

Please consult the guide for creating links in posts and pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

Here’s the link to your About page https://movetomontclair.wordpress.com/about/ You can edit it and include whatever text you want in it and then click “update”. For editing see http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/edit-pages-screen/

This is the general link model:
Highlighted anchor text here

This is the visual result – it’s not actually linked here in the forum.
Highlighted anchor text here

1. Enter the relevant descriptive anchor text you want to link to first. Note that “here” is not a good choice.
2. Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text. (If you don’t highlight the anchor text the chain icon will remain grayed out and not be useable.)
3. Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.

P.S. This is not theme related.

Time Thief Ive been using these WordPress themes for years and know very well to click the link or unlink button after highlighting, etc.
NEVER had a problem until this site/theme.

Not a beginner.

Without seeing the actual code involved, I’m going to take a wild guess and say that the links have two http’s in them. Edit the link, see what it says in the Link box, and report back.

When you use the link paster, be absolutely sure to remove the http that WP.com puts in there before you paste the link.

Your answer above is appreciated but for a beginner–thank you though.

Maybe its in the formatting when I’m copying and pasting content from google docs or Word. Though again, never happened. But i tried plain text too then inserting per the u.

Its like the theme is stuck in its format.

Ah, figured it out. it was the MAC version (dated on my old macpro 2007) i was using earlier today! Now working on newer mac air and linking correctly.

funny. it was the old Firefox browser but have not paid for update on 2007 mac pro (and updated with most recent free version).

Linking did not work due to that alone. Could link to pages Id created within blog but not outside WordPress. that has never happened with ANY other theme while iw as building with my old macpro. weird. just this new one.

that is, only this theme has not worked with old browser/mac pro software.
