Sela theme: help getting comment box to display
-
Hi,
I can’t get the Reply Box to display on my Blog pages and my About Me page. I went to Pages, selected the Blog and About Me pages, selected the Screen Options, Ticked the Comments box and Updated the pages. When I view my website to confirm the changes, there is no Leave a Reply box displayed. Sure enough, when I go back to the Pages tab and look at the Screen Options, the Comments box is not ticked. Is this a bug? Is there a work around or some way to get the Leave a Reply box to display?
Thanks,
JoyThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I exited and entered my site again (just in case something needed to be cleared). Now, under the Screen Options of my Blog page and my About Me page, the comments box IS ticked, but the Leave a Reply box still doesn’t display. I have my Settings > Discussion set to display the Comment box.

Hi there,
Please refer to your earlier thread for instructions for enabling comments on individual pages https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/sela-theme-removing-the-leave-a-comment-box?replies=5#post-2354492 -
I have read and followed these instructions. Comments are turned on in Settings > Discussions and in the individual pages, but the Comments box is still not displaying.

Ok, this was just a glitch. I turned it off on the individual page, updated it, then turned it on and updated it again and now the box displays. I have no explanation other than it was some sort of glitch.

OMG… Now the comment box is not displaying! I went for a walk, then came home and decided to check my website. There is no Comment Box on my blog page again. I don’t know what’s going on. I’m ready to tell my network that my website is up and running but I can’t tell them if they can’t leave a comment on my blogs.
Please help,
Joy

I think I know what’s happening. I just don’t know how to fix it. When I was learning WordPress, I was playing around with the different settings/options on the Blog page to see how it works. One of the things I did was to turn off comments and discussions. I ended up deleting the blog page, not realizing I needed it. I created a new blog page and it automatically created the slug: blog-2. It won’t let me change the name of the slug to blog. Could the display be looking at my deleted blog page instead of my active blog-2 page?

I found my old Blog page in trash and restored it. Then I set the Posts Page to be my recently restored blog page. I made sure that comments were turned on. I made sure Settings > Disccussion was all turned on. Then I tried it again. Still, no Comments box.
This must be a bug in the sela theme. I just don’t understand how anyone could be using Sela to post blogs when the theme doesn’t allow readers to leave comments. This seems like a basic requirement to me.
???

Hi Joy,
The comments box won’t appear on your Blog page — it only appears on the individual posts on your blog page. You can click each post’s title or on the “Leave a Comment” link to the left of the post to get to the individual post with the comment box there.
For example, you can see the comments box on this individual blog post:

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hello Happiness Engineer!
Thank you for this answer! It has given me “the big picture perspective” of the purpose of the Blog Page and the Blog Posts. I only had 1 post to start with so I wasn’t seeing it properly; the page and the post were the same and it seemed redundant to me. Now I understand that when I have MANY posts, a summary of each post will display on the Blog Page with a link to the full posts where people can leave comments. I think this is what the Excerpts box is for. There must be a way for me to put a “read more…” widget in the excerpt box to link to the full post.
I have to go out now, but I can’t wait to get back home to try this out. This stuff is really addicting lol!
Thank you,
Joy :) -
Hi Joy,
I’m glad that helped give you the big picture perspective, and that you’re having fun with this. :) It definitely gets a bit easier to see how it all fits together once you start publishing more posts.
By default, the full text of each post will appear on your Blog page. However, you can add the More Tag to each of your posts and that will add a “read more” link. You can add that “more” tag wherever you want the “read more” link to appear — everything above it will be visible on your Blog page, and people can click through to read the rest of the post.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help! :)

I did it! It’s done! I’m sending out an email to my network of friends and clients to announce my new website! Thank you for your help and for pointing me in the right direction with the More Tag :)
