Sela theme: home page template

Hi. Please help. I cannot get the 3 widget areas to display on the front page. I have followed instructions and created a static page – selected it as front page and placed simple text widgets in the 3 areas. However the front page widgets do not appear.

Hi muthimuthi, it is difficult to know what the problem is from what you say.
Is you site able to be viewed? Can you give us the link?
Have you selected the front page template for that page?
Have you put text in the widgets?
Have you checked that the widgets don’t have any restrictions under “visibility”?
Do you have any text or graphic in the top “featured area”, and is that visible?
Those are all things that I would check, but you may have checked them already.

It is the titles and, as Unklee suggests, content of the widgets that appears on a page assigned to front page template. Have you included content (text, images, videos, etc.) in those “simple text widgets” that you added to the appropriate widget areas — called confusingly first, second, and third “Front Page Sidebar”?

Thank you for your comments. I found the problem. It was an oversight on my part, somehow the page attributes had got reset to default. Sometimes it helps just going back to it after a break.

I’ve learned that the featered image on the front page of the Sela theme is 1180 wide. Does anyone know what the best height of the featured image on the homepage is?
The theme is awesome :)

As far as I can tell, the featured area spreads or shrinks to suit. For example, you can’t leave it completely blank, but if you put nothing in there except a dummy html tag (say a pair of paragraph tags), it shrinks down to almost nothing.
I would think the height would be determined by how much text you want to put in the block in the centre, and how much graphic you want around that text. You’ll probably need to experiment a little.

Just double checking–are there any Sela theme questions that have been unresolved by volunteers here? If so, let me know and I’m happy to help.

I’m trying to install the Sela theme in Wordpres 4.1.1
In the customize menu I can’t seem to find the option were to upload the logo. The option Site Title and Tagline are available, but no logo… :(Anyone?
-
I’m no expert, but when I look at Customise in Sela I have a link for “Site Title, Tagline and Logo”. When I click on this, it opens up a box that has:
- a place to type in a Title,
- a place to type in tagline,
- a checkbox to display header text, and
- a place to show the logo and a button to “Add Logo”
Does yours not show all those? If it does, then the only thing I can think of is to see whether the Logo is an alternative to the Title appearing, and therefore you may need to uncheck the “display header text” checkbox. I would be surprised if that was it, but it’s worth a try.

On self-hosted sites, the site logo feature is available through the Jetpack plugin. Just install and activate the plugin and the logo option will appear in the Customizer.
If you need further help with the self-hosted version of Sela, please post in the Sela forum at WordPress.org:
