Sela Theme – Menu Items stating Oops there is no page here?
-
In two of my menu items at the top of my static home page there is no content if you click on them. The message is ‘oops there isn’t anything here’ – one of them is my Contact page so I really don’t want to delete that!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Are you still encountering this issue? The menu on https://sandlinandassociates.wordpress.com/ presently doesn’t have a link to a Contact page. Also, the page https://sandlinandassociates.wordpress.com/contact does not exist.
The two most essential support pages for learning how to create custom menus, and trouble shoot issues regarding them, are typically the following:
1. Custom Menus — https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
2. Category Pages — https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/ -
Hi! Thanks for your response. The most interesting thing is that I sent out my request from my other WordPress site – rfprepared.wordpress.com. Not sure why it went out over the sandlinandassociates. Also, I was somewhat able to rectify the situation – I just didn’t include the provided Contact form on my Contact page. Not sure why I couldn’t use it in the Sela theme? Even though it was offered as an option? Please check out the RFPrepared site above and let me know what you think? I sure would like to be able to make my slideshow in the side menu bigger! Thanks again.

It’s selected as your primary site.

You should be able to use a Contact page on any WordPress.com site. Did you use a custom menu? Might have just been a bad link in a custom menu.
Please check out the RFPrepared site above and let me know what you think?
Looks great!
I sure would like to be able to make my slideshow in the side menu bigger!
I hadn’t even been aware that you could display a slideshow in a widget on a WordPress.com site. How did you do it?
-
I totally stumbled on it! If you are in the Customizer and click on the pencil next to the right side Widget area – you can choose a Widget for that area. If you search for “photo” it gives you the option to insert a slideshow (among other options – you have to click the dropdown menu to get to it). Please let me know if you fiddle with it how I can make it bigger! Thanks so much.

Also, how do I change my default site from sandlinandassociates to rfprepared? Thanks again.

Will do.

You can change the primary site at either Account Settings or Personal Settings.

For the slideshow in https://rfprepared.wordpress.com./, did you use the Flickr widget, Instagram widget? There are only three choices when I search on “photo” at Customize > (any) widget area: Flicker, Gallery, and Instagram.

Unfortunately, there is no way to change the size of the Gallery Widget. You might want to drop a suggestion at the Ideas Forum.

Let me clarify and amend my statement
there is no way to change the size of the Gallery Widget.
The size does change depending upon where you display the widget, and what style of gallery you use.
- If you display the gallery widget as a gallery with tiles, square tiles, or circles, the gallery will grow in length as you add more images.
- The slideshow size in a gallery widget in the sidebar is unaffected by the number of images. However, it might display at different sizes with different themes, depending upon the amount of space allotted to the sidebar.
- A slideshow displayed in a front page widget on the Sela theme is much larger than one shown in the sidebar with the same theme.
-
Correction:
Change “A slideshow displayed in a front page widget” to “A slideshow displayed in a front page widget area.”

Hm – so it sounds like I have to create another static home page to get it to display larger? But there is no way to expand that sidebar Widget in Sela? Thanks for the info though! I don’t think there is anywhere else on my static page I could put it – I COULD make another Menu item and put it there? Do you think?

But there is no way to expand that sidebar Widget in Sela?
I don’t know. Possibly with CSS customization. You could add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention if you’d like to ask them about that, or submit another topic at the CSS Customization forum.
I don’t think there is anywhere else on my static page I could put it
You can’t put the gallery widget in the content of a page or a post.
I COULD make another Menu item and put it there?
Yes. You could create a new page, assign to it the Front Page Template, not make the page your static front page, and link to it with a menu item.
so it sounds like I have to create another static home page to get it to display larger?
The front-page widget areas on the Sela theme are a special feature of the Front Page Template. They’ll only display on a page with the Front Page Template assigned. See the “Setting up a static front page with the Front Page Template” section of the Sela theme guide for instructions, and the Sela demo for an example of the Front Page Template in use on a front page.

I’d forgotten that there are also three footer widget areas on the Sela theme which may be populated to display widgets on the front page. The gallery widget displays larger the footer widget areas than it does in the sidebar widget area. Try it out!
