Sela Theme Post Formats

Hi, I’d like to use the ‘aside’ and ‘image’ post formats on my blog but they appear to be no different from the ‘standard’ post format. Please let me know how to fix this.

Hi there, In general post formats only affect the display of posts as they appear on your blog front page, not when viewing a single post directly.
However, looking at the Sela theme showcase guide https://wordpress.com/theme/sela I don’t see that Post Formats are supported in this theme.

Here’s the current list of free themes that support post-formats: https://wordpress.com/themes/free/filter/post-formats
I see that there is a discrepancy here. There is no mention of post formats being available in Sela, but the Post Format module does appear in the Post Editor.

Hello staff-zinnia – I see the Post Formats module in both Calypso’s Editor and WP Admin’s Post Editor. Is that what you are asking?

Yeah, I was just curious if the post formats were acting the same way in both editors. I’m having a look at this now. Hang tight and I’ll be back with an update.

When searching the free themes with https://wordpress.com/themes/free/filter/post-formats Sela is not listed in the results.
Full Width or Grid page options available. This could give you a different look. More information about that is on the theme instructions page.
The Content Options in the Customizer can also be configured for posts with Sela.
When testing the post formats I will confirm that they do not work. I do not believe they are supposed to work. As justjennifer mentioned, the post formats aren’t listed in the theme instructions.
I’m going to pass this information along to our theme team. Thank you for reporting it to us.
For now, if you want to use post formats I’d suggest picking a theme from this list:

Hi @theequotex! We’ve looked into this, and it looks like Sela was set up so multiple post formats displayed in the options, but only the ‘Link’ and ‘Quote’ formats had special styling.
This is indeed confusing, so we’ve removed the post formats from the theme that do not appear different than regular posts. This won’t change the post format setting on your posts — non-supported post formats will appear to have the “Standard” post format selected, but if you switch to a theme that does support a particular post format, it will be selected for the post again.
