Sela Theme: Posts on Front Page

Hi, I recently changed my website’s theme to Sela, which has a “Featured Image Page” option with a static image (used for the homepage). My previous theme used a post format but all of those posts have been moved to the bottom in a widget format. Is there any way I can retrieve these posts and put them on a new page? Or, at least have them show on front page? Since the posts were on the homepage, I can’t retrieve them like any other formal Page on my website. Do I have to start from scratch?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

you can make a blank page and name it “blog,” save it and then go to customize your front page and under “front,” you can tell it to put all your blog post on this new page you just made called “blog”

    @bridalfashionfraire,

Is there any way I can retrieve these posts and put them on a new page? Or, at least have them show on front page?

The instructions given by willychng provides a way to put them on a second page that is not the front page. Your link to the posts or “blog” page — call it anything you like — will appear in the header area menu bar.

You can display posts on the front page with any theme. If you want your posts to display on the front page as they did with your previous theme, change the setting at the top of Settings > Reading to “Front page displays your latest posts.”

Other useful tools for directing visitors to your posts include the following:

    • Custom Menus
    • Display Posts Shortcode
    • Category and Recent Post widgets

Since the posts were on the homepage, I can’t retrieve them like any other formal Page on my website. Do I have to start from scratch?

Not sure what you mean. You can always retrieve them, as long as you don’t delete them.

  • Sela is designed to work with a static homepage, as the volunteers above have mentioned. You can display your blog posts on another page by following the guide here:

    Set the Homepage

Currently, it looks like you’ve selected a page to be used as your static front page, but you haven’t finished the process – you still need to set up your blog page, as wllymchng mentioned above.

    The basic steps are:
    1) Create a blank page and call it Blog
    2) Under Settings > Reading, assign this new page to be your Posts page, next to “Front page displays”
    3) Add your new Blog page to a custom menu

If you need further help after checking out the above resources, just let us know.

Great, thanks so much for all of your help! I ended up creating a separate page for all the posts & used a static front page. I’m still familiarizing myself with WP terminology so I initially had a bit of trouble navigating the help section. Thanks, again.

  • Excellent, glad you’re set and don’t hesitate to post again if you need further help!
