SELA Theme social links menu doesn't work after forwarding

  Hi, although I am very happy with the sela theme (using the free version), I have 2 questions regarding the social footer menu.

  First: I would love to open the social media links in a new tab and not in the parent page – is that possible?

  Second: the social menu worked fine in wordpress.com
  After forwarding (with masking) frenchalacarte.eu to frenchalc.wordpress.com the facebook and linkedin button stopped to work??? You can see the URL they link to, but somehow it does not open. Any ideas? I have used the automatic forwarding option through my domain registrar, maybe the issue is related to the nameservers…

  Yes, you can use the WP Admin menu editor to do that. Click Screen Options and check off the “Link Target” box. Doing that adds a new checkbox to each menu item, to “open in a new window”. Check it off on each of your social media menu items.

  WordPress.com does not support domain forwarding with masking. The best way to map your domain to your site is with domain mapping upgrade. Instructions are here:

  Cheers for that!
  Learn something new every day ;) I did not know about the screen options, so that was very, very helpful.

  The social links now open in a new tab and more importantly they open through frenchalacarte.eu as well.
  The forwarding with masking was already in place through our registrar, but thanks for the tip on upgrading.

  Problem for me is resolved, so I am happy.

  I have to point out that if you forward your own domain to a sela based wordpress.com site the social link buttons do not open. They only seem to work when you open in a new tab. Maybe something to check out.

  I have to point out that if you forward your own domain to a sela based wordpress.com site the social link buttons do not open.

  Right, as I mentioned, the only method of custom domain mapping we support is the official domain-mapping upgrade we offer. If you choose to forward or mask a domain at the registrar level, certain things may not work correctly.

  It is amazing a free service like wordpress.com and a free theme like sela offers this level of “customer” support – so hats off to you and the WP community!
