Select Text Color Icon in Row 2 Not Working

  Today for the first time I have been unable to change the text color in my posts on any of my blogs. The Row 1 “Kitchen Sink” icon has been renamed “Toolbar Toggle,” and now the text color icon in Row 2 displays only the basic colors. “More Colors” is not showing. This function worked fine yesterday, but since the morning of 3/25/14 it hasn’t worked at all.

  This is a change in the TinyMCE editor that was just implemented. You can update the hex color code in your text editor once you have changed the color to one of the standard options.

  I’ll look into whether or not the “more colors” option can be returned to the colors box, and let you know.

  Thanks for the responses.

  I used the “More Colors” option quite a lot to match my special text colors to images in my posts and miss this capability. I’m not sure I understand the procedure with the hex color code. . . .

  Hex color codes are found in several sites:

  Basically, you can choose a standard color, and then go into your Text editor and replace the 6 digit hex code (like #fffeee) with your custom color, chosen from a hex color picker website or even from software like Photoshop.

  I’ll admit it’s not the same as picking a custom color directly in the tool, but it’s a workaround while I look into the issue further.

  It looks like the “More colors” option is gone to stay. This change, along with some of the other editor changes, was part of a design and usability overhaul that was discussed at some length by WordPress core developers.

  It’s possible we may build in new ways to change text color in the future, but for now, you’ll either need to use the default set of colors or the workaround already mentioned.

  I’m disappointed to hear that the color options are gone (and still wonder why), but I appreciate your looking into this and providing the workaround information.

  I do like the image-editing capability in the upgraded visual editor.
