Selecta Theme – How to remove Search and Categories from the sidebar?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there. I’m interesting in switching to the Selecta theme but have discovered you can’t do full-width pages. So, that means I want to remove widgets from the sidebar altogether and put them in the footer. However when you do this it appears that the theme automatically places a Search widget and a Categories widget in the sidebar. How do you remove that? Is there a button to push for this? Thanks..

Those are the default widgets for the theme. Default widgets appear for a sidebar if you haven’t defined any on the Appearance → Widgets page for that section. You could add an empty text widget to make the sidebar blank, and if you want to adjust the spacing then you could purchase the custom design upgrade and modify the CSS to hide the sidebar area all together.

Ok I will give the empty text widget a try and see how it looks. I’m more of a writer than a page editor so the easier the solution, the better :) Appreciate the response.

I ended up tinkering with it a bit and wound up just using the simple search box in the sidebar. Unfortunately even with the empty text widget it still left a floating box out there. No worries though, I’m happy with it as it is now. Love the theme. It’s totally changed how my blog looks – for the better (I hope!) The slider is awesome. Will keep playing around to see what else I can learn with this particular theme.

    Thanks again.
