Selecting "Featured Post"-Tag in Theme "Editor" 1.1.8

    Dear Support,

After three years, I want to change my blog design from “Syntax” to “Editor”.

Issue: On wp.com I’m able to customize the theme’s “Featured Post Area” in a simple way. I set a tag, go to the “customize” view and there I can type in the new set tag and everything is fine. Save setting, et voila – the correct posts appear in the theme sidebar.

On my self-hosted blog, the same theme acts differently. I only get a pull-down list with already set tags. And the one I want to use is not in this list (which is not that surprising). I seems the theme uses a list generated from the most-used tags of mine. That counteracts the “featured” function somewhat.

How do I get the theme to
    1. show me a new, freshly set tag in the list or
    2. just let me type in the new tag in the customizing view

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

It looks like your website is hosted with Accelerated IT Services.
We can only assist with WordPress.com hosted sites on this forum.

You can ask for support in the WordPress.org forums:
    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

There is a dedicated .org support forum for the Editor Theme:

The difference between .ORG and .COM is explained here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Hope this helps :)

  • Following up no the modlook tag but it looks like this is resolved.

    Hrmmpf…I hate this .com/.org-stuff.
    Thanks for your reply anyway.

I solved the issue in the meantime. The solution is “silly me”.

FYI: The .com-Version of “Editor” uses the tags of a blog and can be directly edited in the customizer view.

The .org version creates its list in the customizing view from the categories, not the tags. I added a new category, activated the checkbox, saved the article and afterwards selected the new category from the pull down list. “Save and publish” – et voila. Everything as intended.

So it was just a matter of tags and categories.

May the force always be with you :-)

  • @ zauberzebra2015 thanks for sharing the solution, I wouldn’t have guessed that version uses a featured category.

Curiously, were you using the download link on this page?
