Selecting who gets to see my posts

  • Unknown's avatar

    I don’t want just anyone to be able to view my posts. I want to limit viewers to certain people for whom I have email addresses. Is there a way for me to select/limit by whom my posts are received and viewable?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi elainestravelssite! You can certainly do that :)

    First of all you need to set the visibility on your site to “Private” by going to your site´s settings page, here.

    <img class=”alignnone size-full wp-image-2061″ src=”https://eltallerde.files.wordpress.com/2017/10/site-settings-e280b9-el-taller-de-wp-com-e28094-wordpress-com.jpg” alt=”Site Settings ‹ El taller de WP.com — WordPress.com” width=”1004″ height=”295″ />

    You can view and edit which users can see (and edit) your site by adding their email or user name in the “People” section for your website, here.

    <img class=”alignnone size-full wp-image-2066″ src=”https://eltallerde.files.wordpress.com/2017/10/people-e280b9-el-taller-de-wp-com-e28094-wordpress-com.jpg” alt=”People ‹ El taller de WP.com — WordPress.com” width=”1152″ height=”383″ />

    In order to add a new user just click on the top-right icon and add your friends email or username (here is a direct link). If you only want them to see the site add them as followers. If you want to let your friends contribute but adding or editing your blog you can do so by making them authors, editors or administrator. You can read a mored detailed explanation on users permission levels here.

    I hope that helped. Please let us know if you need anything else and good luck with your travel blog!

    Bye now!

    Hi there, the visibility settings on WordPressdotcom are Public or Hidden from Search Engines but visible to human viewers or Private. If you want to limit your site visibility to only people you invite to view it, select Private and send out invites to Viewers.

    https://wordpress.com/settings/general/elainestravelssite.wordpress.com then scroll down until you see Privacy and change that to Private.

    More about Privacy here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/ and here

    To send out invites to view your Private site, follow this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/

    If search engines have already cached your existing posts, they will be removed the next time the search engine crawls your site.

    Let us know if you have any other question.
