selective categories email subscriptions

    Is there a way to have subscribers to a blog such that they only receive email updates from selective categories?
    eg. Blog may have Cat1, Cat2, Cat3, Cat4, Cat 5.
    User1 only belongs to Cat1, Cat3, Cat 5
    User2 only belongs to Cat1, Cat2, Cat4
    The objective on my end is to make sure my members receive relevant email updates that are applicable to their interests rather than receiving email updates of posts that may not be of their interest.

    Well, if your readers subscribe to RSS feeds, you could make categories for each and they could subscribe only to the feed of that category. I don’t know how to make that work with email subscriptions, unless you take those RSS feeds to Feedburner and use their Email option for each feed.
