Self Hosted Blog?
-
hey do any of you know how to transform your blog to self hosted? kinda like wweadam.com his is self hosted but it still says powered by wordpress and can any of you tell me if it is free? and if i dont have to buy any fancy domain
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The wordpress software to make the blog work is free from wordpress.org and most themes are free.
Beyond that, you do have to buy a domain name and pay for hosting somewhere. And if or when something goes wrong, it’s up to you to fix it.
-
It’s a long, hard, process if you have over 100+ posts.
Because of memory time outs, etc… the import file would need to be split.
You’d need to buy hosting such as Host Gator, Blue Host, or Fat Cow.
Or you could try a VPS at slice host or even get a dedicated server…
though shared hosting should work.
And like Ellaella said, you will need to buy a domain.
So unless you plan on making money from being self hosted, theirs no point in doing it.
Google adsense doesn’t pay much anyways because of the economy.

Adsense (aka: adcents) has never paid much. And it looks cheesy to me. It really cheapens the look of a site.

k thx for the info cause actually i was looking at adbrite for ads. Well self hosted is more customizable but i didn’t know i needed to buy a domain so thanks for the info again

What if you already have your own domain? How do you “import” or use the “powered by WordPress”.
Currently, I have been on WordPress for more than a couple of months now, and I am getting no traffic from Google. When I set up on Blogger, I got traffic almost immediately. I searched FAQs, etc., and nothing is helping.
Google, however, send plenty of traffic to my regular site and at least some to the other blog almost immediately, so it would seem it might make sense to transfer over to our own domain, BCphotoadventures.com.
Our blog is at http://BCphotoadventures.wordpress.com
Any and all help appreciated.
Thanks,
TBC

bcphotoadventures,
This may not be what you are asking, but these are some things I can see in your blog as it is now:
Using more than a total of 12 categories + tags per post will keep you out of wp.com’s global tag feature, which is how your blog is found by other wp.com bloggers with tag surfer, and is how wp.com gets your blog to search engines. Also, I see you are often duplicating categories and tags on your posts, but in terms of SEO, tags and cats function the same.
Also, because you are displaying only 1 post on your posting (home) page, your archives pages (categories, archives) show only 1 post at a time as well, so readers have to repeatedly click “older posts’ to see all the posts in a category. There are a couple of workarounds for that, if you are interested. If a reader can see more titles, you are likely to get hits on older posts.

Tess,
Thanks for your response. That is really helpful! I wish I had found that out a lot sooner. While, I thought I had researched carefully, apparently, I didn’t succeed!
Take care,

I know this is on a different subject, but I still cannot figure out how to start a new thread!
At http://BCphotoadventures.workpress.com I only see Visual composing mode for my blog, not HTML which is my preference. Any thoughts?
