self hosted but still limited customisation

    Hi I should firstly say I’m a complete noob when it comes to web design. I bought a WordPress hosted domain name the other day (not knowing I needed a self hosted domain to have full access to certain customisation tools). I’ve since registered my domain name with HostGator and Installed WordPress but when I enter the new username/password it doesn’t work. My old username/password works but when I reach my dashboard I still can’t use the customisable features such as “install theme”. I don’t know what to do?
