Self hosting

  I am really new to all this and have used the free WordPress blog to get started, I would now like to get my own site name and so I’ve read I should be self hosted?

  Is it best to buy a domain name through WordPress or to go self hosted throufg another site and transfer my content across? Also what sites are best?

  I’m very confused and would appreciate any help

  Hello –

  You can have your own custom domain here at WordPress.com. You do not need to migrate towards self hosting to get one. Our WordPress.com Personal Plan is all you’d need to do this.

  Self hosted sights require more hands on management. You’ll be responsible for all updates and if the site breaks, again, you’ll be the one to fix it. Before taking that big leap I suggest reading over the ‘Getting Started Resources’ on the WordPress.org support page.
