Self hosting and changing theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently signed up for self-hosting on Bluehost. Am I now automatically on wordpress.org? I’m quite confused about how this whole part works.
I also can’t add a new theme at the moment as the button isn’t showing up and is all just endless scrolling, any tips on how that actually exists?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, the hosting you have on Bluehost is a self-hosted WordPress.org version. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

You can point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), with these steps: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

You’ll need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)

I hope this helps – let me know if you have any more questions!
