self hosting confusion
-
I am confused. I am new to blogging and I set up a wordpress blog that is linked to my self hosted domain through go daddy. Do I need to self host my wordpress blog too? I think there is no way to call wordpress so I am not even sure if I have already done this. Any suggestions? I am paying for the $99 a year package but at the time didn’t know about self hosting so not sure if it is part of my site
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
There are two ways to use the WordPress software. The first is to download it yourself and install it onto a host (such as GoDaddy). The second way is to use WordPress.com where we take care of all hosting, upgrades etc. for you. You’ll find out more about the two ways to use WordPress here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/Your new site, mariarybka.wordpress.com is a WordPress.com site. WordPress.com offers anyone a free WordPress site with the option of additional upgrades, such as the WordPress.com Premium Plan.
Our plans allow you to add additional features such as a custom domain to your WordPress.com site.
Hopefully this helps and let us know if you have any other questions.

I actually am paying for my wordpress site because I upgraded not to have any ads but from what you are saying and what I have read it is a wordpress.com site and hosted by wordpress. I have heard that I should self host for future growth. What are my options to do that? Can my plan change? Can I host through go daddy since I believe I have hosting already through them?

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and self-hosting a WordPress site are two different entities. In other words, if you host WordPress at GoDaddy your site will not be able to use a WordPress.com plan.
You will always have the option to move between a WordPress.com site and a self-hosted WordPress site hosted by a company such as GoDaddy. However, I would encourage you to review both ways of using WordPress and deciding which one will work better for you. It is often simpler to start with the right choice for you instead of switching over later.
If you would like to use GoDaddy as you may cancel your WordPress.com Premium trial from your My Upgrades page:
https://wordpress.com/my-upgradesAlternatively, if you would like to use WordPress.com as your host you may be able to contact GoDaddy and see about a refund for your hosting. It will be up to GoDaddy if they honor your request and not WordPress.com staff.
You will find more information on the two ways to use the Free and Open Source WordPress software here:
