Self-hosting issues
-
I just read the page that lays out the difference between WP.com and WP.org – again!
I’m quite confused (and irritated and annoyed) and I have a number of questions:
1) First – please define the term ‘self-hosting’ – as I understand it, in YOUR world this means that any site that is NOT hosted with WP is by your definition ‘self-hosted’, right? In other words, if our site is hosted by GoDaddy.com it is self-hosted, right?
2) I want to create a custom site with complete control over its look and feel – most of our pages will be static, but one of the pages will have a blog. So am I correct in assuming that we would be better-off self-hosting this site with GoDaddy?
3) If we host with GoDaddy, just what resources will we need from WordPress?
Please advise.
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

1. Correct, but there’s also a difference between having a hosting account and just a domain name. GoDaddy offers both.
2. Probably.
3. None. You may need the software and/or add-ons from wordpress.org, but nothing from wordpress.com.

If we’re just going to have a single blog on just one page on the site, why do we need WordPress?
