Self hosting to WordPress.com

Hi! I have my blog http://www.darlingbudsofmei.com which is self-hosted. I have it linked to my wordpress.com account. If I don’t renew my hosting and domain what will happen? I don’t use the site regularly anymore but I also don’t want to lose the contents. Can I switch it to a free plan on wordpress?

If the site is self-hosted, and you don’t renew with your hosting provider, you’ll lose the site.
If you don’t want to continue to pay your hosting provider, we recommend transferring the site here first: https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
If you want to keep the domain name, we have two options:
Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
