Self hosting vs WordPress.com
-
I really want to upgrade my site (how it looks, music etc.), but I’m looking at the prices of things here verses the prices of self hosting. And it seems like self-hosting is cheaper. Would I be correct? And if so, nothing against WordPress, because I do like it. Wouldn’t it be beneficial to them to have complete packages like the self hosting websites?
I’m just wondering if it would be better to do the whole self hosting thing.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Well, we don’t know what upgrades you want to buy or what you want to do with your site, so we can’t tell you which would be more appropriate.
Do you already know CSS? If so, staying here might be an option if you want to customize your look. If you don’t, then you’re basically stuck with the 76 themes we’ve got.
Hosting costs $10 a month and up. $120 a year. You decide what you want to do, and do the math.
-
When you say $120 year, is it a final price or it can go up because of other factors? It that’s a fized price, I don’t think I really mind to invest that money. What about you sharonkaleena? I am trying to create a strong branding a customized theme is vital for this. Pre-made templates is not what I like the best… Can you include the link where you found the prices by the way?

There are hundreds of thousands of web hosts out there, the vast majority of which meet the WordPress minimum requirements. To run WordPress your host just needs a couple of things:
* PHP version 4.3 or greater
* MySQL version 4.1.2 or greaterRecommended web hosting http://wordpress.org/support/

You can also do some research and read reviews about hosting providers at
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/
Based on my experience, I would recommend these providers:
HostGator
DreamHostAlso, although I haven’t use them, MDD Hosting has excellent reviews at Webhosting Talk and HostJury.com.

My reply to this thread has some links, and I believe that because of them, the software thinks I’m spamming… lame.
Devblog.

It might go up, it might not; it depends on your agreement with your host. Each host’s offering has to be evaluated separately. There are hosting recommendations at WordPress.ORG.

Apparently you are not aware that opportunistic signature link dropping to your own blogs is unacceptable behavior on this support forum. Unless a link is directly relevant to the subject matter in a thread – don’t post it!Also the link to the party who hosts you is a link to an SEO site that makes no mention of webhosting. It has the distinguished PageRank of 1/10. So I conclude your advice is lacking in value.

Sorry to provide an option/answer to the person asking the question.
I was merely trying to offer him one possible solution.

Oh great another link just like the other link and probably a PPC link for our Moderators to remove. :(
-
links are safe but again sorry for not reading the rules correctly and as a result spamming and providing in-accurrate “help”
