Selling downloadable pdf’s

Hi! I want to build a website/blog that is training-themed in a specific type of business, based on my 25+ years of experience in that line of work. But I don’t want to give away my knowledge & experience for free. I’d like to offer downloadable pdf’s (individual chapters of a course) for a reasonable price. Do I need an e-commerce site to do this? My material will only be relevant to Canadians in this line of work. No international sales will happen. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi there,

We do not have full ecommerce functionality built in to WordPress.com, but you can add it by upgrading to our WordPress.com Business Plan, which you can learn more about here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

With that plan we would recommend you install the WooCommerce plugin (which is no additional cost) and then you can use that to manage the sales and downloads of your PDFs. See: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/digital-downloadable-product-handling/

You can also consider using our “premium content block” as a more lightweight option, which is a way to allow you to charge access for content. You can learn more about that here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/premium-content-block/

The premium content block is an option on all our plans, so you can use it even on our most affordable Personal Plan option. Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
