Selling on WordPress.com

    Hi,

Just looking for a bit of advice regarding selling on wordpress.com. My blog is a homepage for my band, and we’d like to set up some sort of ‘purchase our album’ capability. I’ve only just realised the whole no-plugins-on-.com thing, so am wondering is it possible at all to set up something similar (i.e. a paypal link, or something vaguely automated…. paypal payment results in mp3 transfer kinda thing). Sorry about my lack of technical expertise here!

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can use a Paypal donate button, and staff have said if you’re an original artist, it’s okay to use WordPress.com to sell your stuff. You may find over time you’re not thrilled with the fact you can’t add a shopping cart utility, though, and may want to look into independently-hosted WordPress.org blogs.

Thanks a million for the help, I’ll have a read of that link and see if Paypal can do the trick.

    Cheers!

Solved it by being lazy- we’re on itunes/amazon etc. so I just added buttons to re-direct via the main site.

Someday I’ll have to get better at html/CSS, but as long as shortcuts keep presenting themselves I guess I’ll be ok.

    Thanks again, Raincoaster.

You’re welcome. Double-check your links to Amazon, etc, because if you’re using affiliate code it’s not infrequently stripped out. Always double-check links to be sure.

How do you mean, stripped out?

I copied and pasted the links from our myspace, and on checking discovered that they’d all been replaced with myspace links, so had to replace them all with the originals.

    Is that what you mean?

Yes, that’s one possibility. Myspace is obviously using some kind of redirect. But I occasionally use Amazon.com affiliate-formatted links, and they can be very fiddly. All javascript is stripped out, for instance, and even if you use the plain HTML version, it adds an extra space for some reason on WP.com.

Just make sure they go to the right page, and include your affiliate code, if any. Since it’s your content, you’re allowed to use an affiliate link to it.

Ahh, I know what you mean- one particular link was inserting spaces, alright. Pretty sure I have it cleared up now, and fairly happy with how it all looks & works.

Thanks again for all your help!
