  I’m thinking about starting up a WordPress website to sell products on. Please could you advise me on the best way to go about this?

  Hi there, if you are looking to actually set up an ecommerce shop on your WordPressdotcom site, the only plan that gives you that ability is the Business plan upgrade which includes WooCommerce.

  Another other option is to go with hosting your own install of the standalone WP.org software on 3rd party web hosting.
