Semalt crawler is back
-
Hi guys,
Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but the annoying website Semalt.com is back as a referrer for some people. I have been getting one or two hits a day from there that only show up when I check referrers on the iphone wordpress app. When I look on my computer, it doesn’t show up, but there’s a discrepancy in the amount of viewers when you look at the total amount.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I clicked the “Spam?” flag on semalt a few days ago. I couldn’t see any kind of response to my action. I thought semalt had gone away, but it is back today.
When I hover over “Spam?” it goes pale. when i click, nothing happens at all. I certainly don’t get any chance to undo the action. -

Have the same issues with semalt showing up in my Referrers how do I block?
the “spam” option doesn’t appear in my stats -
Any resolution to this? I’m so sick of Semalt and have tried numerous ways to blacklist this crawler. No luck so far.
The link offered by Timethief is only good for WordPress.com-hosted sites. It specifically states the spam reporting option is not available for self-hosting WP using Jetpack, which is my situation.
Suggestions appreciated.

For right now, the option to mark referrers as ‘spam’ is available only for WordPress.com users, not for those hosting their sites elsewhere and using Jetpack for site stats.
In the future, this option may be available for Jetpack users as well.

You just re-stated exactly what I said: The option to mark referrers as spam is not available for those hosting their own site and using Jetpack.
My question is: Is there any other way to block the Semalt crawler — for those of us hosting our own sites? Has anyone found a solution for this?
Thank you.

That question would be best addressed to the bloggers on the WordPress>ORG support forums. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

Oh, please forgive me. I forget when it comes to WordPress that .COM isn’t for COMmercial sites and .ORG is NOT for non-commercial sites. Like the way it is everywhere else.
Funny, though, how when I click “view stats right now on WordPress.COM,” it brings me right over here. From my self-hosted site. Instead of, you know, WordPress.ORG.
So, again, please forgive my hideous gaffe. So sorry to be so slow on the uptake.

I guess about 10% of the “views” on my blog are spurious ones, apparently generated by “semalt”. They keep coming, although semalt has not appeared recently as a search engine.
Views that I do not believe to be genuine have come from 22 countries, including Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia, Israel, Croatia, Grenada, Romania, Egypt, Cape Verde, and Panama. -
I went to Semalt.com and at the bottom of the page, there is an option to remove your websites from this crawler. I just did it, so I don’t know how great it will work, but it doesn’t hurt to try. It says that your sites will be removed in just 30 minutes. We’ll see….

^^slshacka was right. Going to the source is always a good idea. Make sure if you have subdomains that you submit those as well.

Oh, okay, nice to know! I was SCARED! I am so glad I went to this forum and found out what the heck was going on….

My site is already blocked from the crawler. So honestly, I don’t know why I suddenly have all these hits. I don’t think they are “real.” I was scared that it was something to worry about but now, I don’t think so. Just annoyance.
