Send email from domain addresses

    Hi all,

I am trying to set up the email account for our church office assistant using the church domain, purchased through wordpress.com, so she can use it in gmail.

I am following the instruction from this link (https://support.google.com/mail/answer/22370?hl=en) but I can’t for the love of all things good remember the password I am supposed to use, and I am not even sure if it is my personal wordpress password, some domain password or something else that I should enter.

I know forwarding and sending emails from our domain addresses work because the pastor have been doing it for a while but I cant remember what I used to set up his account this summer!

Any pointers for me? I feel so lost!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Marie-Eve,

Your domain leadshepherd.org is using our Email Forwarding feature. You can manage your email forwarding under Store > My Domains in your site’s dashboard.

From there, you can click the “Edit” button next to your domain and head to the “Email” tab to edit the email forwarding you have set up.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thank you @rachelmcr, but that part works fine for me: I can forward the @domain.org emails to our personal @gmail.com addresses.

It is the “sending as” part that is a chanllenge right now. When I log into gmail and try to set this up, I am asked to provide the SMTP server, your username on that domain, and your password for that account (as explained here https://support.google.com/mail/answer/22370?hl=en).

The problem is that I don’t know which password to use (my wordpress password doesn’t work) and without it, it is impossible for me to send emails from my @domain.org address through the gmail client.

Any way to help me with that?
    Thanks!

    Hi Marie-Eve,

Sorry, I misunderstood! Gmail no longer supports changing the “from” address for email forwarding unless you’re using their Google Apps service. If you’re using email forwarding with a regular Gmail account, Google doesn’t have a way to change the “from” address there anymore.

Aw, that is what I suspected… I guess we’ll have to look into other options.

(Isn’t it strange, though, that gmail still sends emails from our @domain.org addresses for the accounts that were set up earlier this year…)

    Thank you for your help!

Yes, it’s really a bummer! (And interesting that addresses that are already set up still work.) I’d recommend trying one of the other email clients mentioned on our support page here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding/#changing-your-from-address

You might also want to consider setting up full email service with your domain — we have a guide for adding email service for your domain with more details. :)
