I have a new website on SquareSpace.com and a WordPress.com blog. I want to keep my blog on WordPress but have it regularly posted aas well on the blog page of my website. How do I manage that? Is it just a matter of forwarding, or do I need to transfer my domain from WordPress? Instructions would be helpful please.

Hi Linda,
I’d like to make sure I understand what you’re looking for before providing any instructions. Currently, you have a domain sounding.co at WordPress.com. You also have another separate site at Squarespace. You would like for the posts you make at sounding.co to automatically be posted also to your Squarespace site. Is that correct? If you could either reply back to confirm or explain a bit more, I’ll be happy to help!

Hey Linda,
There currently isn’t an automated way to post to one site (either Squarespace or WordPress.com) and have that post automatically also be posted to the other. You would need to manually add the post in each place.
It is possible to have your WordPress.com site and domain (ljrobin.wordpress.com and sounding.co) redirect to your Squarespace site. In that instance, anytime someone entered either of your WordPress.com-related addresses, they would be taken to your Squarespace site instead. That can be accomplished with the Site Redirect upgrade:
Would that work for what you’re looking for?

Just one more clarification, please. So I would post to the SP site AND the WP site, but wherever someone looked for me it would be redirected to the SP site — to the blog page, or just to the site’s home page?

Hi Linda!
When you use the Site Redirect, you would only need to post to one blog. The reason being is that even if you posted to your WordPress.com site, readers would automatically get directed to your Squarespace site. So, the main reason you would do this is if you feel like your readership frequently visits your WordPress.com blog, ljrobin.wordpress.com, and you would like them to instead visit your Squarespace site for new posts. The redirect ensures that even if someone enters the wrong URL, they end up in the right spot. Does that make sense?
As far as whether it redirects to the home page or individual post page, if there’s an identical post URL on your Squarespace site, it will redirect to the actual post. Otherwise, it will direct to what’s referred to as a 404 page, which means it couldn’t find the same post. For example, say you have the following post at WordPress.com:
yourwordpressurl.com/1/1/14/this-is-fun
On Squarespace, that same post lives at:
yoursquarespaceurl.com/this-is-more-fun
Since the part after “.com” doesn’t match, the posts wouldn’t find each other.
For searches, your WordPress.com blog will still appear in Google search results. However, if you use the Site Redirect upgrade, readers that click on your site through the Google search will be redirected to Squarespace.
I’d like to ask a few questions just to make sure the Site Redirect upgrade is the best option going forward.
- What are you planning on doing with your domain sounding.co? Are you going to leave it mapped to WordPress.com or move it to Squarespace?
- What is your purpose for having two sites? Are you trying to move your entire content to Squarespace and only blog there?
Let me know the answer to those two questions so I can make sure we’re giving you the best plan moving forward!
