I have 3 domain names registered through NameCheap which includes a website via WordPress. When I log into WP, I get a pop-up that says, ‘Please check your Primary Site’s Jetpack connection.’ Clicking that takes me to a page that says the site has been taken down. I unsuccessfully tried to build the site with WordPress, but, wasn’t able to get far so I proceeded to Square Space. Though there is no content on the site, I would like to move it to continue with SS. How do I do that? Thanks.

I don’t have a site linked to this WordPress.com account

  • Hi @amyleechen, we can help you disconnect that domain from the WordPress.com interface. We would just need you to confirm the address. Can you send a link to the site you want to disconnect?

And, if you haven’t yet, you’d want to update the domain’s name servers or DNS settings according to the info Squarespace gives you. Usually the settings take effect after several hours.

When I check my account/domain, it shows the below. Does that mean I’ve done what I can do at my end and need the to let the connection play out? It will be completed without further action from me? Thanks!

  • Hi there,

The connection error you see in your WordPress.com account is for the connection the Jetpack plugin creates between WordPress.com, and the admin account on your site. That connection lets you manage some aspects of your site using our tools, but it doesn’t have anything to do with your domain.

If your domain isn’t loading your site, you need to contact your hosting provider’s support directly for help with that. If that’s the case, the Jetpack connection being broken is simply a symptom of your site being offline, not the cause, and there’s nothing we can do from our end to fix this, as we don’t control your domain or the server it’s connected to.

If you don’t plan to use WordPress for that site any more, we can remove the Jetpack connection on our end, but that’s as much as we’re able to do in this case. To make any changes to your domain itself, for example to point it to Squarespace, you’ll need to contact Namecheap support directly.

    Hi,
I’ll try and decipher it all tomorrow, thanks. I had tried to transfer my domain to SS — I had a pop-up message that said I could do it and the first year would be free. But when I checked the boxes to transfer, I was being charged $70 which is much more than I pay at Namecheap. Is there something I may be misunderstanding?

    Thanks for your help,
    Amy

  • Hi Amy,

That’s something you need to contact Squarespace about. We’re WordPress.com, a completely different hosting service.
