  Does anybody know if categories and/or tags boost results in the search engines? I hear a lot of conflicting answers. I know content, and key words and phrases within the text make a difference but I don’t know if search engines “see” categories and tags. I appreciate help from you experts, cause I definitely am not one. Yet.

  Yes, they do boost SEO. PLENTY. Especially the ones on WordPress.com, because of the global tag pages.

  If you overuse them, though, WP.com may drop you from the global tag pages, so keep it to a combination of no more than 12 categories and/or tags on each post.

  yes… as raincoaster says, tagging and categories play a pretty crucial role in driving traffic to your site.

  relevant categories/ tags would bring you more hits through search engine results as well.
