SEO Capability
-
Hi All,
I am looking to use a website builder to build our new website. We will be using a company to do our SEO campaign and they have told me to ask the following questions of any potential website building provider we use. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please see a list below of the functionality required by the company running our SEO campaign:
– Title tags
– Alt tags
– H1 and H2 tags
– Meta Descriptions
– Abililty to add new pages easily
– Access to FTP and control panel
– Social Media buttons – fbook/twitter/g+ main ones. Can you advise if any of the above is not possible with WordPress?
Many thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/See here for a full comparison WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/There is no upgrade you can purchase here that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins and or any third party themes. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.
WordPress.com SEO is very good. If you had two identical sites, one hosted here and one self-hosted using that same plugin, the site hosted here would have better SEO than the self-hosted site. WordPress.com has huge SEO and you get the benefit of that by having your site hosted on a .wordpress.com “subdomain” here.
Read: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/ and http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/04/11/seo-and-your-blog/ please. It’s of interest to note meta titles, meta descriptions and keyword metatags are not required for SEO purposes and Matt Cutts of Google has said that as far back as 2009. Search engines are focused on keywords in your content. What is important is keywords found in your content. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/03/01/revisiting-keywords-and-tags/

H1 and H2 tags are defined by your theme.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/#create-a-new-pageAccess to FTP and control panel:
FTP access does not exist on any WordPress.COM hosted blogs.

Bottom line: If you are into hiring an SEO firm to do our SEO campaign then you are in essence barking up the wrong tree here at WordPress.com. This is a turnkey operation here. The access they expect to have does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs. It does exist on WordPress.ORG sites.
You need to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting and set up a WordPress.ORG install. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct ecommerce, access and edit metadata and edit the database. Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
