SEO confusion! What's going on!?
-
Hi there WordPress people! Basically my group has made a blog for a university project and we have to get our blog to number 1 for the search term ‘dsmmcm1314’ on Google to win an award. We changed our blog URL from thedigitalpeopleblog.wordpress.com to dsmmcm1314digitalpeople.wordpress.com.
But now it seems our old address (which was deleted a few days ago) is scaling the google listings and is now number one, even though we’re using a new address now! How is this possible? It was on page 5 before we deleted it and it seems somehow it’s getting traffic even though the URL was deleted? It’s page 1 now and it’s the first link! So our group would be winning now IF we kept our old URL. (Silly me). But can anyone explain how this is happening seeing how we changed our URL? And we’ve had most of our hits whilst we had the new URL?
We’ve only had the new URL a few days so I suspect Google May just be adjusting. But even so, surely our old URL shouldn’t be rising up the SEO ranks?
Thank you very much for any help that can be given, we’re currently very confused :) and are considering changing the URL back if that’s even possible.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please check this page on types of blogs for more information about what content is and isn’t welcome on WordPress.com.
SEO blogs: Blogs that are written for search engines instead of humans. These blogs are dedicated to trying to fool Google and other search engines into ranking them or the sites they link to highly. WordPress.com is not meant for this type of activity. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

You are asking for the secret knowledge to the kind of stuff that drives a multi-billion dollar industry. If SEO were easy, then everyone would have their site at #1 (except they wouldn’t, since everyone would be able to do it).
In general, switching URL’s around is going to set you back. Eventually Google will re-index and show the change. But for the moment, you should concentrate on creating and promoting quality unique content.
