SEO effects of moving from .org to .com site
-
For the past few years, I’ve self-hosted a WordPress site using WordPress.org software. Of course, I also took advantage of permalinks which I know are not available with POSTS on WordPress.com sites.
I recently decided to move my site to WordPress.com and paid extra to keep my same domain. I then imported all of my old pages and posts, menus, etc. My question is, I have literally hundreds of links on pages and posts, pointing to those old Permalink url posts.
I noticed now that when I try to go to those old links, the site forwards me to the new urls. Nobody is getting PAGE MISSING ERRORS which is nice. Still, does this effect SEO at all? Do I need to go through every single page and change the old urls to the new urls.
In other words change….
/this-post
to…
/2010/12/28/this-post
Or should I just ignore the old links in pages and posts and let the natural redirect functions of WordPress.com do the trick?

Hi there – If the old permalinks are redirecting properly, then I wouldn’t worry about it at all. It shouldn’t affect your SEO since the previously indexed permalinks still work, and eventually, Google will replace them with the new ones.
