SEO for my blog

    Hello,

I have a question about SEO. I was presented two articles on “SEO for WordPress.com”. They were helpful, but I have some specific questions:

    – The article mentions updating posts regularly. The blog I’m working on is going to be a website for a small business, in which case, I’m not sure that there will be frequent updates. Occasionally, there may be additions to the work portfolio, or job posts, but that’s all I can think of. Is their ranking going to get progressively worse?

    – Are there certain keywords that I should be using?

    – Are my links okay? I saw a note in the article for people to have links that exactly relate the information they are looking for. I have some numbers in mine to help my co-workers understand the idea of a site architecture a little better. I want to make sure that’s okay.

Please let me know when you have a moment.

Consistently creating content is one of the ways search engines know your site is still live and active. This can be a boost to your rankings. I can’t predict how not updating your content would affect your rankings, but I would highly suggest you reconsider and maybe make a weekly blog post part of your goals for your site.

    – Are there certain keywords that I should be using?

Keywords aren’t as important as the content you create. Any highly trafficked keywords you would want to use, write them in your content. Keep your content focused and relevant to your site’s purpose.

Your links look fine. Generally links within your own site won’t affect your rankings (unless they’re spammy).

Thanks for getting back to me!

I think the content is pretty focused and concise, so I’m not to worried about that.

Do you have any suggestions for creating a blog that is more like an “Updates” function as opposed to a blog? I don’t think blog really goes along with the brand image of the company or its competition.

That sounds like a good plan! Here are a couple of other links about SEO and WordPress.com:

As I understand it, that IS a blog. And I’ve been a corporate blogger for over a decade now. Just make updates whenever appropriate for your business. To gain SEO advantage, three or more posts a week is optimal, but it’s never compulsory.

Okay, I’m extremely sure that they won’t be making changes that frequently. Their projects span 6 months – 2 years so they just won’t have anything to say that frequently. But, if a new staff member comes on the team, or a new capability is achieved, I’d like to find a way that they can display an update.

Any time a company would issue a press release is a good time for a post.
