SEO related query

Hi,
I currently use Independent Publisher 2 theme (free). I see that there is an option to provide Site tile and tagline. But SEO engines do not treat them this way.
The browser heading takes Site title + tag line, the search engines also display it this way. The site description also uses the same tag line content (effectively repeating the tag line twice – on the title and on the description below it in search enginers results page).
Is there a way i can provide site description somewhere? Also, i see that plugins are only for premium users, so does this mean i cannot manage SEO related stuff even if i know the basics of HTML tags ?
Please help out.
