SEO with the new URL

Ever since I switched to my own URL on wordpress.com Google indexing has gone seriously DOWNHILL.

I was assured by your support people that the change would be seamless so this is rather discouraging. Google simply does not index my blog as thoroughly as it did before I got my own URL.

How can I start getting everything indexed properly again. I’ve done the webmaster tool thing in the settings…it was done before I changed the URL and I’ve redone it after.

Again, very disappointing, considering it’s an investment to get my own URL and it seems like it was a mistake. The google indexing prior to the change was brilliant.

I hope we can get it back to what it was.

    thanks,
    gianna

  • We have absolutely no control over how Google operates. The old WordPress.com URL is permanently redirected to your new domain, so it shouldn’t cause too much of a disturbance if any.

I’d say give it a week or two, as it essentially needs to build an index for the new domain and associate the old domain with it.

As for the blog itself, there’s nothing blocking Google, so really it’s all up to Google now to put the pieces back together.

    it’s been months!!
and I was told it would be seamless.

if you have no idea how Google works then I should not have been told it would be seamless…

when I do searches for posts they used to be at the top of all searches…now they don’t even show up…it’s pathetic and I should not have been told it would all be the same…

I hesitated greatly before doing it…

what is frustrating is that I was given misinformation…and I paid for the URL in multiple ways.

  • Theoretically, it should have been seemless. The old domain is permanently redirected to the new one per Google’s instructions.

Beyond that, we have no control over how they operate.

well, it wasn’t seamless and perhaps you shouldn’t tell people that it will be.
