Separating into multiple pages: visual problem

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I just attempted to use the Page function to break up a long article, but was disappointed with the results. The article section ended abruptly, followed by a border, then the automatically generated similar posts, another border, then the small numbers, “1, 2”, signifying navigation through the article, and finally the Comment section.

As it stands, it’s very possible that the reader would miss the navigation elements completely, and think that the article was ended. For this reason, I removed the page break.

I think it would be better to keep article navigation together with the article text, then have the other elements trailing. I think larger numbers would be a good idea as well.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Do you have an example of where this has happened?

One thing you can do is to turn off the automatically generated posts at appearance > extras.

A ha. I didn’t realize that was optional. No, I currently don’t have a page to show you. I’ll play with that and see if it makes enough difference, and get back.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Ok, turning off related posts helped, as did changing my theme to something less busy. I still added a “(continued on Page 2)” at the bottom, but I think the whole impact now is clean. The effect is at http://onfollowingchrist.wordpress.com/2009/04/22/hebrews-6-rest…len-christians/ if you’re interested.

Hello, sorry for getting into this thread. I have inserted the command <!–nextpage–> and my article breaks in several pages. The problem is that the link to the pages are not shown in the home page where the article is published, please check at http://timedecristo.wordpress.com/ . My readers will not be able to move to the next page… is there any solution for this? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, the next-page number links don’t work on the front page. You’ll have to use something else as your front page.

Timedecristo – you’ll have to use the More function to break the article on the home page. Then, once at the article’s premalink, you can use the next page function.

All – I gave this a little more thought last night. Though I have found a workable solution, I’d like to reiterate my suggestions:

1, move Related Articles below intra-article navigation. They absolutely should not interfere with article flow, and currently they give the strong impression that the article has finished.

Actually, Related Articles should only be seen at the last page of an article. I would think the blogger wouldn’t want the reader distracted or drawn away in the middle of his article.

2, the article navigation format could be more conspicuous. Larger numbers, maybe a lead-in.

    Thanks,
    Paul
