Seperate page titles from primary menu item

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey everyone,

I use the Bromley theme. For the menu’s items on top of the start page you have to choose pages. When you click on an item the title on that page is also the name of the item in the menu. Is there a way to seperate both? So that if you click on an item in the primary menu, the title that is then showm to you is different from the item’s name.
Oh boy, I hope this makes sense to anyone.

    Best regards!

    Hi there,

It does not look like this is possible with the Bromley theme as it comes. You could do something like this with custom CSS if you have a Premium or Business account.

If you have one of those types of account and would like help with custom CSS, please post to the CSS forum and we can help you there.

  • Hello @communistcorrespondenceblog,

Here is a link with some helpful information regarding you theme: https://wordpress.com/theme/bromley . When I go to the setup area of your theme, ( https://wordpress.com/theme/bromley/setup) I found this information:

Bromley has one custom menu area available which is displayed at the top of the site in a floating bar. If there is no custom menu configured then the menu will display a list of your site’s pages. To find out more about how to set up your menus, see the Custom Menu documentation.

I believe creating a Custom Menu is what you would need to do to achieve what you are looking to do. Here is a link to guide you through: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

    Hope this helps :)

Thank you amandasjackson! I missed the custom menu option.

I played with it a little more, and you don’t even have to use a custom menu. Sorry for the confusion.

Just click on the little down arrow next to the menu item (in the main menu or which ever menu you are using). That will provide a little box for you to change the menu label (the text that appears in the menu.

Just FYI, the custom menu allows you to add a menu item that is an external link and not a page/post on your site.
