Sequential Theme (Search Widget on Footer)
-
Hey,
I have the search widget placed in the footer, with the setting of an icon and ‘button inside’ option, yet the button is placed on the outside. Noticed this recently something seems to be broken within the theme or option is not working as intended, worked perfectly fine couple of months ago.

Hi there,
In this case the issue is that your theme is an older one (launched in 2014) and was created before we had the concept of “blocks” at all. It does have basic support for blocks, but may not have the ability to utilize all the options that more modern themes can, since they are designed with blocks in mind from the start.
In this case it would be possible to change the appearance of the search by upgrading to the Premium plan and adding custom CSS to help tweak the style of the button. However, without an upgrade the only way to get that specific widget style (search button within the search bar) would be to update to a newer theme.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hey,
Thanks for the information and update.
Been testing with the newer themes, and using the new full editing themes that fully support blocks and the search box widget, its doing the same issue on these newer themes?
The icon and ‘button inside’ option just doesn’t seem to be working at all?

Hello there,
I can replicate what you’re seeing there, and this looks to be a new bug.
I’d need to replicate and see if this is theme specific.
To check, do you have a preference as to whether you require the button to be in/out of the search field?

Hey,
My preference is for the button to be in the search field, with the option of using the search icon as the button.
Thanks,

Hi there,
I’ve tested this issue, which seems to affect several classic themes. I.e., themes that were launched before we had a block editor. As noted above, these older themes will sometimes lack full-block support.
I’ve reported this issue to our engineers so they can take a closer look. Still, I do recommend using a different setting as a workaround for the time being, as issues with classic themes can sometimes take a lower priority than fixes on current themes. We will update you as soon as we know more.
Thanks!
