Serious issue with vanishing non-Gutenberg content
-
There is a serious problem with pre-Gutenberg posts happening. A while back I contacted WP about missing content on one of our pages. The content was visible in the Classic interface but not in Gutenberg, therefore not editable in Gutenburg. The content was also visible in the public version of the post when I contacted WP. Recently, however, it vanished form the published post. I was able to rescue it and repost it. However we’ve now discovered content is missing from two other posts. I was advised by WP to repost content in the block format. This is not a viable solution. Legacy content should remain viewable as published without being randomly erased. Our blog is linked to by large institutions internationally so this is very concerning. Anyone else having this problem?

Follow up – chatted with WP, they suggest that vanishing content is perhaps because someone went in and edited the posts in the post-Gutenberg era, which may have caused conversion issues and dropped content. They suggest only editing older content in the Classic Editor or Classic block. I talked to the staff member who wrote the posts, and he says he did not edit them in the Block editor, so I’m still not sure why WP would randomly drop entire paragraphs and images.

Hi there,
I’ve reviewed your chat so I could catch up on the issue. We’re happy to take a closer look!
In reviewing the transcript it seems that this post was one of (but not the only) post with the issue, yes? https://peelarchivesblog.com/2020/10/29/an-archivists-night-at-the-movies-part-v-spooky-halloween-edition/
I noticed you mentioned this:
at least four paragraphs are missing a a few images
Can you tell us a bit more about that? What are the missing images and text (a brief description is fine) and is the issue still visible on the post? I think you mentioned you repaired the post already, yes?
When did you notice the issue of the missing content? I reviewed the revision history of the post and it appears to have been edited about 16 hours ago (this was you, yes?) but the post is pretty large so I’m not sure I saw what text/ images are missing or re-added out of that. Can you point them out?
Thanks for the additional info!
