Seriously considering WordPress.com

Hi, I’m considering changing from my currently externally hosted site (it’s at BlueHost.com) to a WordPress.com site. BlueHost has been horrible and is getting worse every day. But there are a few plug-ins I must have: Page Links To, Accordions, Page Expirator, TablePress. Can you have these under the Business Plan on WordPress.com?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

WordPress.com has recently added the option to the Business plan to install most plugins. This is not officially announced, but it’s already available for Business plan users.
You can read more at this forum post:

  • Howdy –

You can definitely switch over to WordPress.com.

As fstat mentions, you can add plugins and custom themes to your WordPress.com Business Plan.

With our new update to the Business plan you will be able to add plugins and a custom theme to your site. This upgrade also gives you priority access to our live chat and private email support :) This upgrade is fully refundable for 30 days after purchase too.

Since we do not have a direct database import tool yet you would need to setup a staging URL first. Next, add the custom theme and plugins to that staging URL.

The content of your current site will be imported to WordPress.com through the WordPress import tool and by following these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/#importing-content-from-another-platform https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/view-all/

Once all of this is done you would map your domain, to your
WordPress.com account. Send us a note and we’ll make sure that this is set as your primary domain.

I know this is a lot of information so please write back with any follow up questions :)

Thanks for your response!! I have actually already experimented with importing my site to my wordpress.com sandbox site and everything seemed to have worked successfully! I am loving the speed and beautiful interface for editing!

I will read the article you point to. I work for a public library and an animal shelter (both poor) so it’s a big decision to sign on with a new host. Do you have testimonials or referrals regarding responsiveness or up time we can consider?

Thanks for writing back, I am impressed so far!

I have been here for 11 years and I can say unreservedly that up time is not an issue here at all.

WordPress.COM servers also hosts VIP sites like these ones https://vip.wordpress.com/

  • I’ll be happy to answer any other questions that you or your team have. I think you’ll be quite pleased with a change and access to support for your sites.
