Set front page image — behind the text

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I am setting up this template on wordpress.com. I figured most of the setup except for one issue. The featured image on the Front Page does not appear behind the text of the Front Page, as explained in the step 3 of the “Front Page Template” instructions here: https://wordpress.com/themes/edin/

    3. Set your front page image — behind the text — as a Featured Image.

My featured image appears on top of the text of the Front Page, not behind. My result looks like here:

    https://edindemo.wordpress.com/page-templates/grid-page/

Notice how the title of the front page “Grid Page” appears on top of the image, but the content of the front page appears under the image. Instead, I would like my result to look like here:

    https://edindemo.wordpress.com/

Where the content of the front page “The content of the front page template…” appears on top of the featured image. I guess the front page has not title in this case.

    Thank you!
    Rares

    Hi,

I am setting up this template on wordpress.com.

At WordPress.com, what you evidently refer to here as a “template” is usually referred to as a “theme.” Another piece of the puzzle you might be missing is that some themes have various “page templates” that may be assigned to static pages. The Edin theme, for example, has five different page templates available. Each static page may be assigned any one of the five page template options. While the Front Page Template is typically reserved for a static front page, it needn’t be used on the front page, and it can be used on any other static page.
On themes that have optional page templates, the page template of a static page is set at the Page Attributes module of the page editor. The assigned template can be changed from one to another at any time.

My featured image appears on top of the text of the Front Page, not behind. My result looks like here:

    https://edindemo.wordpress.com/page-templates/grid-page/

This is because you have the Grid Page Template assigned to your static front page.

Instead, I would like my result to look like here:

    https://edindemo.wordpress.com/

The Edin demo has the Front Page Template assigned to the static front page.

At least I think that might summarize the causes of the difference between your front page and the that of the demo. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

You are totally right. That was it. Thanks for pointing it out.
