Set of images with descriptions: how to?

    So I can display images individually on a page or in a post, the old-fashioned way, and intersperse whatever text I want. Or I can use the awesome Gallery or Slideshow to display a collection of images.

    Sadly, I want it all. The Gallery lets me give the image a title, but that’s about it. The Slideshow shows the photo with no text at all.

    I have a genealogy blog and would like to have, say, a group of photos with text identifying who’s in each photo. I can’t find any way to do that except the boring old-fashioned way. Any suggestions about how to use the Gallery or Slideshow, or something else I don’t know about? Thanks.
