'Set primary site to valid site'-error

  • Unknown's avatar

Each time I log on to my site I get an ‘Please set your Primary Site to valid site’-error. As I have only one (primary) site that’s not too hard. So I do that, save the settings and everything’s fine. Untill the next time I log on, I get the same error. And again. And again. And… You’ll get my drift. Am I doing something wrong (most likely) or is there some kind of bug?
    Thanks in regards.

Have you set your primary site on your account settings page at https://wordpress.com/me/account?

If you have and that does not resolve the issue type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. Thanks for the advice timethief. Yes, I’ve changed the settings in https://wordpress.com/me/account several times, but the error keeps returning. I will try to get the attention of the mods/staff.

  • Hi there,

I’ve never heard of this particular error, but it definitely should not happen. Does it happen in all browsers, or only in the browser you normally use – our system is showing you used Chrome to create this thread? Does clearing the browser cache and cookies make any difference?

Can you please take a screen shot of your browser on the screen where you see that error? Please ensure that the screen shot includes the browser’s address bar.

    Making a Screenshot

If you upload the screen shot to your media library I’ll be able to see it there.

    Hi kokkieh,

Thanx for the reply. Yes, I use Chrome as my main browser. But I just saw that the same error appears in Microsoft edge.
What happens: I log in and see the normal admin-screen. Then I click on the graph in the middle of the screen, in this case on the bar that represents the visitors for today (9-9 2017). Then the error appears (see the screenshot named ‘Error WordPress 9 september 2017’ in my media-library.
When the error appears I click on the ‘Settings’ -button that is shown in the error-message. I set my site to primary, save the settings and everything works as normal untill I log out.
Cleaning the cache and the cookies doesn’t make a difference unfortunately. Everything seems to work as it should despite the error though, it’s just annoying.
Could the use of Adblocker+ and/or Ghostery have anything to do with it?

  • As there’s just one site in your account there isn’t anything else that can be set as primary, and it appears to be saved correctly to me.

Could the use of Adblocker+ and/or Ghostery have anything to do with it?

That could definitely be it. My money is on Adblocker+

Ad blocker plugins are blunt instruments that for the most part just blocks JavaScript and iframe code on a site. The fact that the daily stats page is not even fully loading in your screen shot tells me the JavaScript code that makes the stats page work is being blocked.

Try disabling ad blocker and see if that helps.

It could also be Ghostery messing with the cookies we use to track your login. You should be able to add an exception for WordPress.com to both those browesr add-ons, which should stop this from happening.

Unfortunately neithetr Adblocker+ or Ghostery seem to be the cause. I made an exception for WP in both, which didn’t help, and then removed them altogether (time do some clean-up anyway) and still the error keeps appearing…

  • Then I’m afraid I’m stumped :)

I don’t see any errors if I try accessing your account, and the primary site is correctly set from what I can see.

Do you have Firefox on your computer? If not, can you please download that and log in and see if the same happens? If you have Firefox, please start it in Safe Mode first. For that matter, can you check what happens if you log in in an incognito tab in Chrome?

Same error. Can’t even chose any features, the whole screen locks up. Works in Firefox, not Safari.

  • @republicansinfrance are you the same person as @michielvanzaane? If so, for which site/account does this error appear?

If you’re not the same person, please start your own thread and we’ll help you there:
