Set Up

I have been at this for hours now. I feel nothing has worked out the way I expected. There are no menu tabs at the top of my page. I tried to edit the menu and that hasn’t worked. At one time I did have the menu list the way I wanted it, but it never transferred to the home page. I tried to add pages, go through the clicks and tabs and instructions and still nothing shows up. I tried to edit the About page and there’s no submit button. I tried to post my first entry and that didn’t happen. I did successfully add a milestone widget to my page. And a picture to my posting name. And a comment to a post that wasn’t there. Every time I’m taken to a new tab there’s a message to confirm my email, but there’s no new email in my inbox. And although I have access to my page, it’s only because I’m signed in to WordPress. It doesn’t seem to be anywhere on the radar to the general public. I was reassured this would be an easy process and it has not been at all. Please help!!!

Let’s start with the menu issue. By default, when you create a new page, you should have a new menu item that will take you to that page. If you’ve created a custom menu, depending on your settings, you may have to add it manually for it to appear.

I’d suggest getting rid of the custom menu for now and go back to the default menu. Then go to the “Pages” section to created a new page that should automatically appear in the menu.

You might want to review the following support article that discusses the difference between Posts and Pages, too:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

Once you have the menu the way you want it, from “My Site” click on “Pages” but don’t click on the word “Add.” That will take you to a list of pages, including the About page (as long as it hasn’t been deleted) that you can then edit.

If you want to click a new page that will show up as a menu item, you would instead click “Add” next to “Pages” from that area. This will allow you to create a new page that will also be a menu item on the default menu.

Here is more information about Pages. I meant to add earlier that the menus are different for some themes. Read this support article for more info:

Thank you. I’ve followed your instructions and the instructions of the “help” modules and still nothing. I can preview the new pages, but they don’t stay saved to the menu list. And there still aren’t any menu tabs on my page. And I know they are available because you can see them on the theme’s example page.

When you go to My Site and then click on “Menus,” what is the name of the active menu you are currently using?

Is it “default menu” or “menu 1” or something else?

very time I’m taken to a new tab there’s a message to confirm my email

This was an important clue. I researched further and found you signed up twice with two separate accounts, and two separate blogs, and one of the email addresses looks odd, which is probably why you haven’t been able to confirm that account.

Here’s the first account. It has username gypsyfeat5k and a normal looking email address which has been confirmed:
    https://gypsyfeat5k.wordpress.com/

Here’s the second account. It has username gypsyfeat and a strange email address that has not been confirmed:
    http://gypsyfeat.com/

I think what you probably want to delete https://gypsyfeat5k.wordpress.com/ and abandon gypsyfeat5k and keep http://gypsyfeat.com/ with gypsyfeat.

Could you reply back here to confirm that’s what you want to do and also confirm your email address for me?

Thank you. The email associated with my WP account is (email visible only to moderators and staff)
I thought my initial site address with WP is https://gypsyfeat.wordpress.com/
But I also signed up for the domain http://gypsyfeat.com/
with the understanding that both addresses are connected to the one site.

When you go to My Site and then click on “Menus,” what is the name of the active menu you are currently using?
Is it “default menu” or “menu 1” or something else?

There is a Primary Menu which is in the first box and I can’t do anything with it (click, move, add) & in the second box it says Default Menu; there are no pages listed under the default menu. And when I’ve added pages, they still don’t show up on the site.

Under a Pages tab, I have a list of the pages I want, but they are “drafts”. When I click to publish, it says the site has been updated, but when I go to the site, the pages are not there.

Ok, it sounds like it’s related to the account confirmation that designsimply pointed out (I missed the part about you having to confirm your email in your original post) and not a menu issue.

Thank you. The email associated with my WP account is [email redacted]
I thought my initial site address with WP is https://gypsyfeat.wordpress.com/
But I also signed up for the domain http://gypsyfeat.com/
with the understanding that both addresses are connected to the one site.

Thanks for posting the details. The email address you mentioned was not what was on file for gypsyfeat.wordpress.com and gypsyfeat.com, and I think what happened was that you made a typo in the email address when you signed up.

I updated the email address for you and sent you a new email with the activation link.

Thank you, but I haven’t received the email with the activation link.
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
And can you clarify for me my site’s address–gypsyfeat or gypsyfeat5k
I prefer the gypsyfeat5k, but either will do as long as its the same for both domains (WP & .com) and attached as one account/site
    Thank you again

I found the email with the activation link. And I think things are coming along. Thank You!!

Here’s what you have setup so far:

    Account 1
    Username: gypsyfeat
    WP Admin link: http://gypsyfeat.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
    Custom domain: http://gypsyfeat.com/

    Account 2
    Username: gypsyfeat5k
    WP Admin link: https://gypsyfeat5k.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
    Domain: https://gypsyfeat5k.wordpress.com/

So it looks like the upgrade and custom domain is already setup on gypsyfeat and the 2nd account is a duplicate. I would recommend keeping gypsyfeat as the main account because there are already purchased upgrades associated with it. Or if you really feel strongly about trying to get it changed, I can try checking into that for you. My personal preference is to have a shorter username, so I like the way it’s setup now. :)

Thank you again. Everything seems to be resolved and I have been able to keep moving forward in setting up my page. The actual page is gypsyfeat and I’m good with that!! Thank you again for you time and assistance!!
