  • You are currently logged in, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to post here, so you should be able to disable two-factor authentication via https://wordpress.com/#!/settings/security/

    RE: Harper’s Valley/harperskeeper

    Thanks for response macmanx.

When I click on link in your message it takes me to log in screen. I can’t log in with code I don’t have

I was not able to reply to your forum message because I not logged in so I had to create a new account to be able to access the forum.

I was able to deactive 2-step at the google level for harperskeeper@gmail but cannot get into my blog at all.

The issue is, unforutnately I set up the 2-step authentication on Thursday. I was not able to generate the back up codes. I set aside to come back to it later and my phone was stolen in a burglary Thursday evening. I’ve replaces phone (upgraded from i4 to i5) and downloaded Google Auth APP but cannot get to anyway to connect it to my blog.

  • What is the username that you’re trying to access?

  • Unknown's avatar
  • That’s who you were logged in as when you opened the thread. Can you no longer log in as that?

  • Unknown's avatar

Correct. All I can access is the log-in screen.

I type in my user ID and password . The next screen asks for the authenticator code. When I enter the one showing on the Google Auth app on my new phone it says it is not a valid code.

2-Step Authentication requires a generated phone app code or print codes be entered — even while logged in to any compatible service — in order to disable the authenticator. It’s sort of like the final firewall, but if there are no print codes in the event of a phone failure or theft, things quickly get complicated… sometimes irretrievably so.

If you change your phone number, or get a new phone, the easiest method for safety and access is to keep your phone app active to get all your codes, login to all your services, disable 2-Step, then wholly clear all your codes and delete the app when every service is off.

Then, when you’re ready to go 2-Stepping again, start from scratch as if it is the first time you are enabling the authentication with new codes generation and app installation.

Of course, if the phone is stolen, that’s not often an option.

harperskeeper, I have sent an email to the address on your account. Let’s continue via email.

Of course, you should never turn on 2-Step authentication without printing out the backup codes:

staff-blorbo…. Thanks so much for your email. I replied with one final question and I think my issue will be resolved.

@boles… thanks for your input. All good info but, unfortunately, not helpful in resolving my issue. I had to activate 2-step to request the back up codes. When I clicked the button no codes generated. That was my original support-forum issue. My phone was stolen before that issue was resolved. I did not have the option of continuing to keep the app live in the old phone once it went out the door in the burglar’s pocket :-). My bad luck, to be sure. The terrific news is, with the assistance of an outstanding Happiness Engineer I think I will be back on track.
    Thanks to all
