    Hello there,

I have written a post and published it but I don’t know how to get it onto my home page or even if I have done what I was aiming for

You can watch the below video to understand how you can customize and bring the posts to the front page.

my idea is to have a blog that has password-protected posts that my daughter can log in and read.

There are 2 ways to do this.
    1. Private your whole website by following the below method

    2. You can make your specific pages or post visibility private by following below method:

  • Hi Zoe,

I see you’re on the Blank Canvas theme. This theme is meant more for single-page websites, and doesn’t come with any features like a blog page or menu pre-added – anything you want you need to add manually, so it’s not the simplest theme if you’re just starting out.

So it might be simpler to switch to another theme that already has a posts page, menu, and so on configured. Livro is an option you can consider if you want something good for mostly text-based blog posts: https://wordpress.com/theme/livro

Regardless, to have your posts show on the front page, go to Appearance ->Customize ->Homepage Settings, and select the option to have your front page show the latest posts. that way every new post you publish will appear on the front page automatically.

If the site is only for you and your daughter, I recommend you set the site to private, rather than using password-protected posts. That way search engines won’t index your site, and no one but you and your daughter will be able to access it.

You have the instructions above how to make the site private. Once you’ve done that, you can invite your daughter as a viewer on the site. She’ll just need to create her own WordPress.com account:
