Setting a Primary Blog
-
I have three Blogs. When I started the latest one I wanted to set it as my primary Blog but try as I might, I cannot seem to do this. On the relevant Settings page, I have set it as the primary blog and saved it (?) but still when I open WordPress the previous Blog appears.
It is not a great hardship to switch to the new Blog at that point but irritating nonetheless!
What am I doing wrong?
John
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

On the relevant Settings page
Did you set it here? https://wordpress.com/settings/account/ or in the Dashboard>Users>Personal Settings>Primary Blog? And of course, stating the obvious that you also need to click the “Save” or “Update” button following any change.

Thanks for your reply.
To answer your question, I set it in the former but have now checked the latter and it too says that ‘Staying on in Crete’ is my primary Blog BUT when I open it through log on or direct from my browser it opens in ‘A Year in Crete’ which was my previous Blog. Strange!
I ahve saved the changes innumerable times but it makes no difference. However, it is worth noting that where in settings/account, in the drop down menu , you are asked to select the Primary Blog, these are all in rather feint print rather than bold like so much else on this page.
Many thanks,
John

OK then, if it shows the same site set as primary in both places, I’ll tag this for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to this thread if you haven’t already so you will see their reply.

Many thanks for your interest.
I think I must be subscribed to the thread because it says something to that effect in your email but just in case, how do I check this?

If you are subscribed, there will be a yellow notice across the top of this thread saying so. If it isn’t there, you can subscribe in the sidebar at the right under “About this Topic”

I’m sorry you’re encountering that problem. Can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below?

Hi,
I don’t think this can be the problem. It happens on two separate computers and when using either Firefox or Internet Explorer. I am afraid that the fickle finger of suspicion points to WordPress!
I would suggest that you try it yourself by accessing my blogs but of course it only happens to me when I access my Blogs through putting WordPress in the search engine. Then it opens at ‘A Year in Crete’ when the primary blog is supposedly set at ‘Staying on in Crete’! It also happens if I click reader without selecting a specific Blog when I am on my Home page.
Thanks again for your help.

Could you please step-by-step explain what link you go to and where you click on until you reproduce the issue?
Perhaps not related, but note that if you change the primary blog in your profile settings. It will only affect newly make comments and posts.

Setting the primary blog on the user profile page doesn’t affect which blog shows up as linked to your name when leaving comments.
It does however affect which site you are taken to after you log in to WordPress.com. If you read the entire thread from the beginning, you’d see that is the current problem.

I type in WordPress in google.
There, I get a number of choices. I click on:
‘WordPress.com – Get a Free Blog Here’
As I usually stay logged in, this takes me directly to my blog. It opens at ‘A Year in Crete’ which was my last Blog. I now want it to open at ‘Staying on in Crete’ but try as I might, I cannot change anything in settings or anywhere else for that matter, to achieve this!

Hi again,
I think I have solved this problem!
In Reader I found that I was following ‘A Year in Crete’. By adding ‘Staying on in Crete’ and deleting ‘A Year in Crete’, it now opens in the former.
Sorry to have put you to any trouble and many thanks for your support.
