Setting Featured Pages on Static Front Page in Shoreditch

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m having some trouble setting featured pages on my static front page using the Shoreditch theme.
I’m looking to achieve the original look of the theme with small images that link to featured pages. When I try to follow the instructions provided here (https://wordpress.com/theme/shoreditch) what I end up with is large page-width panels that also show all the content of the page.
Am I misunderstanding the instructions or using the wrong ones?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @jrheadrick,

Checking your website, it looks you don’t have any child pages for the main page. As I see on the theme page, the steps to set up your site like the demo are :

    1. Create or edit a page, and then assign it to the Panel Page Template from the Page Options box. ( I think you already did this )
    2. Add an introduction to your site in the editor. ( done )
    3. Add Featured Image, which will be displayed behind the text in that panel.
    4. Go to Customizer → Static Front Page and set “Front page displays” to “A static page.”
    5. Select the page to which you just assigned the Panel Page Template as „Front page“, and then choose another page as “Posts page” to display your blog posts.
    6. Add some child pages to the page to which you just assigned the Panel Page Template.

Please make sure you followed the rest of the steps as well and if you have any questions, let me know maybe we can figure it out :)

    Dragoso,

I appreciate your feedback. Perhaps I’m not understanding how to set child pages. When I do so (following the posted instructions), what I end up with are large panel pages that show the entire post.
I’m very new at this, so I appreciate your advice!

    Hey jrheadrick,

    No worries :)

I went ahead and I activated the Shoreditch theme on my personal website https://dragosboroianu.ro/ and here I just recorded what I did to make it look similar to the demo :) check this out : http://zcreenshot.com/mid2t.mp4

Basically I went ahead and I’ve carted THE MAIN PAGE, after that 2 other Child Pages and both of them with an image added in the artcile ( one aligned to left and one to the right ).

After that I’ve setup the MAIN PAGE as a static page for the homepage and I’ve enabled the Panel Page Template.

Regarding to the fact that you see the entire post, you can add the “Read More” ( http://zcreenshot.com/0ilux.png ) and this way you will see on the first page only a part of the article.

If you still have any questions, no worries, feel free to let us know :)
