  I tried to set up an account using .com, and it set me up directly for wordpress.com. I didn’t want this! Also, want to know what my final amount is!

  The only way to purchase a .com domain through WordPress.com is to purchase a domain mapping upgrade. The URL for the domain name purchased is then mapped to from the underlying .wordpress.com blog URL.

  There’s a 48 hour window you can request an upgrade in.
